On behalf of the organizing committee, it is our great pleasure and privilege to extend hearty congratulations and welcome to you to the IEEE Applied Electromagnetics Conference AEMC 2007 at the City of Joy. It is Kokata, formerly known as Calcutta, which served as the Capital of British India till 1911 and was the epicenter of famous Bengal Renaissance paving the way for modern education, science, arts and culture, and politics in undivided India. The City had witnessed the pioneering experiments of Sir J C Bose on generation, transmission and detection of electromagnetic waves at 60 GHz in 1896 executed at Presidency College, Kolkata, only a few miles from the present venue. The venue itself bears a long heritage and pioneering role in promoting and spreading education in modern Science and Technology in independent India.
IEEE Applied Electromagnetics Conference is probably the first of its kind being held in Eastern India that brings in to focus almost all aspects of modern Electromagnetics Research and Education. IEEE Antennas and Propagation/ Microwave Theory and Techniques joint chapter, Calcutta Section feels proud to organize this event and make it a real international platform for scientific interactions.
Right from the first announcement of AEMC 2007 it has inspired a number of University departments, research laboratories and industries to come forward to make it a major IEEE event in this part of the world. The theme of AEMC 2007 is Microwave Education with an emphasis on the recent developments of the Microstrip Technology. The two-day conference will have one keynote address, one plenary talk, two special sessions and eight technical sessions covering all major aspects of electromagnetics.
AEMC 2007 is our modest start. We must appreciate the enthusiastic response and supports we have received from all of you from different parts of the globe. With this strength we hope and plan to make it a biennial event. The West Bengal Electronics Industrial Development Corporation has been a major associate in our endeavour. The other major sponsors are: Schlumberger, USA, FEKO, South Africa, Ansoft Corporation and Agilent, India.
We hope that you will enjoy professionally stimulating and socially pleasant time in Kolkata along with Rasogolla – a very special sweet of Bengal!
